Palliative Medicine Specialist Training Across Rural Australia

Palliative Medicine Specialist Training Across Rural Australia

The Rural and Remote Institute of Palliative Medicine supports access to quality training opportunities for aspiring palliative medicine specialists, to live and work in rural Australia.

The RRIPM Network

The RRIPM network is a collaborative of rural palliative care services across Australia. It covers some of the country’s most diverse, interesting, beautiful, and remote parts. Together, the network supports the training of doctors who want to work in rural and remote areas to join the next generation of palliative medicine specialists.

Is your service interested in joining the RRIPM Collaborative?

Established in 2023, the Rural and Remote Institute of Palliative Medicine is a program supported by the Australian and New Zealand Society of Palliative Medicine (ANZSPM).

Join the next generation

Advanced training follows the RACP Specialist Training Program requirements and is individually tailored so rural trainees gain a deep and extensive experience of palliative medicine.  Assessments are undertaken by supervisors who understand rural complexity, and who partner with trainees to ensure solid progress to achieve training completion.

Generalists and other doctors wanting high quality rural palliative care experience can also apply for a RRIPM rotation and may choose to become part of the ongoing RRIPM community of practice.

Our Aim

RRIPM aims to deliver

  • Appropriately diverse training experiences.
  • Linked training across networked rural and remote settings.
  • Access to shared learning and communities of practice for supervisors and trainees.
  • Support for the majority of advanced training to happen in rural and remote locations.
